Pull up a stump, campers—it’s time to play with our food (and then eat it)!
Today in the Camp WWF Mess Hall, we’re welcoming Camp Counselor Laura, who’s brought the cutest way to serve snacks we’ve seen all summer. These fruit and veggie garden critters and blooming bouquets are not only fun to make—they’re packed with fresh, colorful produce that kids actually want to eat.
Whether you're prepping for a picnic, hosting a playdate, or just want to turn snack time into craft time, this one’s a hit. Let’s get cooking (and crafting)!
What You’ll Need For the Fruit Flower Garden
- 1 small watermelon (cut in half)
- Green grapes
- Strawberries
- Watermelon and cantaloupe slices
- Small flower- and star-shaped cookie cutters
- Skewers or popsicle sticks
For the Veggie Critters
- Celery sticks
- Cream cheese or veggie dip (we used Everything Bagel dip!)
- Cherry tomatoes (red, yellow, orange)
- Sliced cucumbers
- Candy eyes (or make your own from cream cheese and chia seeds)
How-To: Fruit Flower Garden
Start with your “garden bed.”
Cut a watermelon in half and place it flat side down on a plate or platter.
Build your flower “stems.”
Thread green grapes onto wooden skewers.
Add your blossoms.
Use cookie cutters to cut flower shapes out of watermelon and cantaloupe slices. Top each grape skewer with a flower shape.
Add petals and flair.
Cut strawberries into halves and notch them to create tulip shapes. Place them on the sides of the grape skewers as blooming petals.
Plant your flowers.
Stick each skewer firmly into the watermelon base. Vary the height and style for that wild garden look!
How-To: Veggie Critters
Start with celery “logs.”
Wash and cut celery sticks into 4–5 inch pieces.
Spread your base.
Fill each celery stick with a scoop of dip or cream cheese.
Make your caterpillars.
Line up cherry tomatoes or halved grape tomatoes along the top of the dip.
Add eyes and personality.
Stick candy eyes onto the front tomato using a little dip as “glue.”
Serve with smiles.
These critters are as fun to eat as they are to make. Bonus: no bug spray required.

Camp Counselor Tip: Let kids help with the assembly! Pre-slice everything and set up a “DIY Critter Bar” for maximum fun and minimal mess.
