Sometimes the best camp crafts are the ones you can wear. Today in Crafty Corner, Camp Counselor Kay-Dee is showing us how she took our classic Dogs and Kitties print dresses and gave them a whole new look—with a splash of sunshine and a swirl of color.
Using a bit of tie-dye magic, she transformed these black-and-white pieces into bright, bold, one-of-a-kind works of wearable art. If your kids have been growing out of their favorite prints, or if you just want to try something new with a well-loved style, this is the perfect summer project.

What You’ll Need
- A white or light-colored WWF dress
- Tie-dye kit (available at most craft stores)
- Gloves + plastic tablecloth or tray
- Rubber Bands
- Zip-top bags or plastic wrap for wrapping dyed garments
How to Make Your Own Tie-Dye WWF Dress
Prep your space.
Cover your table or work surface with a plastic tablecloth. Lay out gloves, dyes, and zip-top bags so everything’s within easy reach.
Dampen the dress.
Get the fabric damp but not soaking—it should be just wet enough to help absorb the dye.
Twist and tie.
Choose your tie-dye style! Spiral, crumple, stripes—anything goes. Use rubber bands to secure the folds in place.
Apply the dye.
Wearing gloves, squeeze your dye onto the fabric. Let the little artist take the lead!
Wrap and set.
Carefully place the dyed garment in a zip-top bag or wrap it in plastic wrap. Let it sit for at least 6–8 hours (or overnight) so the colors really soak in.
Rinse + wash.
Rinse under cold water until it runs mostly clear, then run it through the wash solo on cold and let air dry.

Camp Counselor Tip: Don’t worry if the dye overlaps or gets a little messy—tie-dye is all about the unexpected! And the beauty of using a printed dress? The Dogs and Kitties still peek through the color for a layered look that’s extra playful.
