What’s better than sunshine, glue, and a little bit of sparkle? Today in Crafty Corner, Camp Counselor Alex is bringing the magic with an outdoor art activity that’s simple, sensory, and seriously sparkly: Glitter Garden Art!
This craft is all about letting creativity shine—literally. It’s perfect for warm afternoons, breezy backyard sessions, or any time your campers need a little extra shimmer in their day. Plus, the setup is quick, the cleanup is manageable (we promise!), and the results? Absolutely dazzling.
What You’ll Need
- Glitter. We love this biodegradable glitter from Gaia Glitter.
- Clear glue (a squeeze bottle works best)
- Cardstock or thick paper
- A tray or rimmed baking sheet to catch glitter overflow
- Tape (to secure paper if it’s windy)
How to Make Glitter Garden Art
Gather your materials.
Team up with your camper to collect everything you’ll need. A tray helps catch stray sparkles and makes clean-up easier!
Pick your outdoor studio.
Find a shady or breezy-but-not-blustery spot outside. If using a table or tray, tape the corners of your paper down so it doesn’t fly away mid-sparkle.
Glue your design.
Let your child draw pictures, shapes, letters, or patterns directly onto the paper using the clear glue. Swirls, hearts, suns, stars—the sky’s the glittery limit.
Sprinkle on the magic.
While the glue is still wet, shake glitter over the design. You can go monochrome or mix it up with a full-on glitter rainbow. Watch as the sparkles stick and transform each design into a shimmery masterpiece.
Let it dry.
Set the artwork aside in a safe spot and let it dry completely. Once it’s dry, shake off any loose glitter into your tray and admire the final creation. It’s perfect for hanging, gifting, or using as a sparkly summer card.
Camp Counselor Tip: Store finished glitter art in a shallow cardboard box lid to keep it safe and contain extra sparkle.
