There’s nothing quite like a little sunshine to brighten your day—and Camp Counselor Megan found the perfect way to bring it indoors. In this Craft Corner, we’re making Nature Suncatchers—a simple, sweet project that turns a walk through the garden (or a poke around the backyard) into a work of art.
This craft is perfect for all ages, totally mess-friendly and all you need are a few supplies, some gathered petals and leaves, and a little sparkle from the sun.

What You’ll Need
- Paper plates (1 per suncatcher)
- Clear contact paper
- Scissors
- Hole punch
- Ribbon or string for hanging
- Nature treasures: flower petals, leaves, grass, pressed flowers, etc.

How-To: Nature Suncatchers
Prep your frame.
Cut a circle out of the center of each paper plate to create a frame.
Cut your contact paper.
Cut two circles of clear contact paper, slightly larger than the hole in your plate. Peel off the backing from one circle and stick it to the back of the plate so the sticky side is facing up through the window.
Decorate with nature.
Let kids place flower petals, leaves, and other flat nature finds onto the sticky contact paper. Arrange until it looks just right!
Seal it in.
Once your design is done, peel the backing off your second piece of contact paper and carefully press it down on top to seal everything in place.
Add the finishing touch.
Use a hole punch to make a hole in the top of the plate, then thread it with ribbon, string, or yarn to hang.
Hang and enjoy!
Hang them up in a sunny window and watch the light shine through—just like magic.
Camp Counselor Tip: This project is a perfect excuse to go on a nature walk beforehand. Try collecting petals in all one color for a rainbow window, or press flowers ahead of time for a flatter look!
